Don’t judge me

I have always heard since I was young that if you apply yourself to something you can do anything.  As such I have always felt like that for the most part if I actually applied myself to one endeavor I would be able to do it well.  Which when I did try at doing something, I was able to do it well.  I of course am a lazy bastard and do things half-assed, or just procrastinate completely (like the thesis paper that took two and a half years to finish) have failed miserably.

At times I felt that people who thought less of me I felt it was unjustly because despite my failures I knew that I could still do anything that I really wanted too.  I based my self-worth on what I had done and what I think I could do.

"We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done."

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

It wasn't until recently when I read that quote that I fully realized why others would think less of me and not see that I could do really good things, but I rarely did. How can anyone, including yourself, know what you're capable of if you're not trying?  If you're not trying how you can really blame anyone for thinking less of you?

Thanks to my recent unemployment, I might actually do some of the many things I have never started, stopped, or floundered at.
